GS1 UK Alterian and SalesLogix integration

Development of members area

GS1 are a not-for-profit organisation helping members to implement standards through the use of barcodes, and RFID.

Challenge

GS1 UK had realised that the Members Area was not efficient which was putting pressure on their Service Team, GS1 UK had a heavily customised system that allowed them to manage their memberships and invoice yearly renewals. The system was becoming difficult and costly to maintain and they were increasingly unable to meet the changing demands of the business. They chose SalesLogix for its flexibility and value it could give to members.

GS1 UK wanted to provide a flexible and scalable system providing their members with an easier solution with high levels of security for members. This was seen as a 2–3 year programme.

Approach

There were three major phases to the project, phase one was started in January 2007 and the project was completed in June 2009:

1.Implementation of SalesLogix as CRM system with integration to existing CRM and Invoicing system.

2.Expansion of SalesLogix for Project Management and Professional Services support as well as integrated support for marketing campaigns.

3.Provision of full interfaces to support the integration online registration, members self-care, invoicing, event management and credit card payments from members.

Phase 1 saw SalesLogix become the main CRM system for the Service Team. Routines were developed which ran each night to sync the two systems.

Phase 2 was for the Marketing and Professional services functionality. Enhanced SLX was implemented to support the tracking of professional services and forecasting of services – including allocation of delivered consultancy to Fiscal months and years.

Phase 3 Fusionworkshop’s project approach enabled the creation of fully functioning prototypes, which offer a graphical representation of the system. This was seen as key when creating systems for use by large service teams as it enables company and user buy-in whilst documenting and tracking all the key stakeholder’s targets.

Fusionworkshop’s solution provided GS1 with a leading Content Management System product, and custom .Net plug-ins were built for Registration, E-commerce and the Members Area. Custom plug-in functionality was created by Fusionworkshop to integrate SalesLogix CRM. The solution was also integrated with other business systems such as Barclays ePDQ payment system.

Results

The functionality allowed GS1 UK to be more efficient, and the solution is easier and more flexible to maintain. The CMS-based website now integrates seamlessly with SalesLogix CRM, Numberbank and the Barclay’s ePDQ system, allowing members to interact with GS1 UK in a secure and simple way.

Fusionworkshop have a strong grasp of what constitutes a successful membership website and the benefits it can bring to our members and our organisation. To provide our desired solution, the Fusionworkshop team proved flexible, creative and responsive in working with our team and suppliers of our existing CRM and Financial systems.
