Supporting and developing the members website
IOSH use Alterian CMC to run a high performance, operationally critical, website for their members. After a competitive tendering process, Fusionworkshop were appointed to support the website and develop new functionality. The company was selected for their proven ability to manage complex projects and their experience of integration with third party business systems (such as payment gateways, databases and CRMs)

Challenge
IOSH needed to deliver key member services such as Join online, renew online and wider MyIOSH functionality. IOSH needed to make the membership processes simpler and easier to achieve recruitment and retention targets,. To do this the challenge was to adopt an existing codebase and achieve two way integration with the IRIS Consensus CRM. Stringent standards of security, performance and scalability were applied to all deliverables. As all complexities were not yet discovered, the project teams had to be flexible and sensitive to evolving business requirements.
Approach
An agile, phased approach was taken giving IOSH the opportunity to refine their requirements before the technical phase began. As specialists in membership websites, Fusionworkshop employed a well-evolved approach to integration. This came down to understanding the customer’s business and how data flows. And this informs how the task is tackled. Working closely with IOSH, the team at Fusionworkshop utilised in-house expertise and methods such as Information Architecture reviews, rapid prototyping and member journey path analysis.
The team drew on a deep understanding of integration with third party systems, in particular CRM and managing Payment Gateways. Developers then wrote exploratory code to show proof of concept of API, highlighting areas for special attention, and defined an architecture and framework that is highly modular and flexible to accommodate future phases of development.
A successful build phase was followed by extensive testing including managed UAT. Fusionworkshop continue to maintain and support the IOSH web presence with further developments planned.
Results
Fusionworkshop achieved full two-way integration with the IRIS Consensus CRM, as well as with RBS Worldpay and Postcode Anywhere. For members this enabled a vastly improved Join and Renew online process. The close collaboration between the both teams meant that there were opportunities for knowledge transfer, in line with a long-term vision. By understanding the customer and their business needs, Fusionworkshop were able to deliver true benefits and return on investment.
