NHS Barking and Dagenham website adoption and support

Re-development of Alterian CMC based website

NHS Barking and Dagenham is responsible for improving health and well-being and making sure people who live in the area receive the health care they need. The online channel has an increasingly important role to play in achieving their objectives.

Challenge

NHS Barking and Dagenham were seeking a long-term partner to support their website and intranet. The organisation needed to develop a long-term positive relationship with an Alterian partner capable of innovating as well as demonstrating technical excellence. In the shorter term the objective was to make urgent improvements to the website to the benefit of patients and partners. With this in mind, achieving high levels of usability and accessibility were a key consideration.

Approach

Following an initial engagement, Fusionworkshop worked to ensure the Alterian-based NHS Barking and Dagenham website was stable, secure and met accessibility standards. Drawing on experience with the Alterian CMS, the team undertook an audit of how standard plug-ins had been implemented and custom plugins developed, allowing critical improvements to be made. The template designs were also reviewed and reworked to overcome known issues.

Results

On completion of the Alterian audit and adoption, the website now meets all of the performance goals set. Fusionworkshop will now support the website and Alterian plug-ins, as well as working with NHS Barking and Dagenham to develop new services in line with their health and wellbeing strategy for local people. The company’s support culture, helpdesk systems, dedicated account management and a strong technical team ensure that the online channel for NHS Barking and Dagenham is in safe hands.

Fusionworkshop's references were outstanding, and showed strong evidence of a partnership-working and win-win attitude. Their assessment for adopting our website was more realistic than other candidates and showed that they understood our business needs and what residents want from our website. They offered useful comments and suggestions for improving the site, as well as interesting ideas for further development. These were far more detailed and precise than the other proposals.
