Roman Baths Alterian based website redesign
User-centred design approach updates the historic venue's website
A more rich and usable experience for an international audience.

Challenge
Bath Heritage Services wanted to improve the appeal and usability of the Roman Baths website. It was apparent that the business goals and user behaviour were not fully aligned. The Roman Baths website appeals to a diverse audience and has multilingual capabilities with a full Chinese version.
Approach
The team at Fusionworkshop reviewed the business goals and carried out an analysis of how users interacted with the website. This resulted in a range of improvements, including:
- Updated Information Architecture
- Template widening
- An Alterian CMS image slider plug-in
- Fully editable Mega dropdown navigation
- Implementation of CSS3.0
- Improved controls to publish content globally across the website
Results
These changes give visitors to www.romanbaths.co.uk a richer experience and allow them to plan their visit to the historic site more easily. Website editors have also been given more control over presentation of images and text. The website is now integrated with social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, and blogging. Fusionworkshop have supported Bath Heritage Services websites for over ten years and continue to work closely with the Council as their online strategy evolves.
“Fusionworkshop has supported the Roman Baths through more than ten years of website development. We have built up a good working relationship and they are quick to recommend new developments to make the site better suited to our customers’ needs. In our recent refresh, Fusionworkshop started from the customer’s viewpoint and analysed traffic to the site; then recommended changes to encourage website visitors to become Roman Baths’ customers. It is now easier for visitors to find relevant information, and the site looks fresh and clean with simplified navigation and larger images.
Regular improvements proposed by Fusionworkshop have enabled the Roman Baths to make the best use of emerging technology and to keep in the forefront of the visitor attractions industry.”
