Wales Millennium Centre Alterian & Tessitura integration
A feature-rich enterprise site and platform for growth
The Wales Millennium Centre is a world class theatre and arts centre, promoting creating and presenting the best international and UK events.

Challenge
Having supported the Centre for many years, Fusionworkshop were engaged to deliver a new platform for online growth. The challenge was to re-develop the Centre's ecommerce service, increase online sales and optimise the user experience.
With a new and feature-rich modern CMS (Alterian) the Centre saw an opportunity to update the web experience and showcase the Centre offering. It was felt that implementing Alterian could also offer an improved ecommerce experience customers with membership, and purchase of tickets plus dining. A host of features were identified, including ‘Select-Your-Own-Seat’ functionality, to be delivered by integrating with the centre’s enterprise CRM, Box Office Management and ticketing system, Tessitura
The online experience also needed to be fully bi-lingual so customers could switch easily from English to Welsh and vice versa.
Approach
The project included full and formal life-cycle management from scoping, competitor benchmarking, and business analysis and content architecture workshops. Prototyping was used to communicate the content architecture and functionality to stakeholders.
User-facing features include personalisation, integration, and dynamically personalised pages. As many requirements depended on a secure Tessitura integration, the Fusionworkshop team used proven processes and to leverage Alterian and Tessitura.
Functionality delivered includes:
- E commerce -An improved shopping basket allows customers to add pre-show dining and Centre Gift Vouchers in a single order
- Select Your Own Seat - The team at Fusionworkshop developed jQuery modules to offer this key feature
- Membership – three levels can now be purchased online and Members who have logged in to the site can now purchase priority tickets
Testing was built into the project plan and after final extensive UAT, the website was launched with strong positive feedback from customers.
Results
The Wales Millennium Centre now have a website to reflect their place as one of the most vibrant arts developments in Britain. The new Centre website is built to deal with hundreds of concurrent users and one of the most complex Alterian CM7 sites to date allowing the Centre to apply its complex segmentation model.
