Alarm, the public risk management association
Alarm, the public risk management association, has around 1,800 members in the risk, insurance, finance, audit, health & safety, emergency planning and business continuity professions.

Challenge
Alarm are users of the Immediacy CMS (now known as Alterian CMC). The organisation needed a self-service members portal providing significant benefits to Alarm members drawn from public sector organisations including:
- Local Government
- The Police Service
- Fire and Rescue Services
- Water Authorities
- Probation Services
- Universities
- The Environmental Agency
- Housing Associations
- Health Authorities
- National Parks
Approach
Fusionworkshop were engaged to undertake an Immediacy CMS site upgrade and migration. Fusionworkshop audited and rewrote Immediacy plugins from another partner. They also provided strategy consultancy to deliver on organisational objectives. A large number of improvements have been made including:
- Membership Database Rationalisation and Administration
- Document Management System (DMS)
- Join/Apply Online for Members
- Member “My Account” self-service
- Membership Discussion Forum Restyling and Single Sign-on with Membership Area
- Website Homepage Restyling and Template Widening
Results
The organisation now has a powerful, flexible and stable CMS to serve their membership. Subsequent work has included a tool allowing Alarm membership administrators to manage records securely and rapidly. This included a new search interface and redesign of administration user screens to improve member management. Ongoing work continues to add new online member services.
“From the outset we were impressed with Fusionworkshop’s team approach and felt that they had the right skill set and attitude to take our website forward. The team have continually demonstrated their ability to meet our demanding requirements for additional functionality and bespoke tools to make our website the interactive platform we require for our members. We have been impressed by their understanding of our needs as well as their responsiveness and efficiency in everything they do, from account and project management to support and development, to the extent that Fusionworkshop almost feel like part of our own team.”
