Re-launched in 2010 the Symptom Checker is deliveered stratigicaly to the mobile channel

As part of NHS Direct’s ongoing strategy to provide digital services, one of their goals is to increase their reach and enable more people assess their care needs autonomously and be directed to appropriate support services across the NHS. NHS Direct’s Symptom Checker service has been a success since launch in 2008, providing crucial support during the flu pandemic in 2009.
The online service continues to deliver significant savings compared to the cost of handling these requests via call centres. The service was relaunched in 2010 on a Sitecore-based website, which included a strategic plan to offer the Symptom Checker to the mobile channel, giving the same experience to people away from a desktop in a fast-growing channel.
Fusionworkshop were approached by Transform Innovation Ltd on behalf of NHS Direct to work on one of the main challenges - to ensure that the mobile experience was fast-loading, highly usable and consistent both with the desktop experience and across a number of mobile devices. The mobile version of the existing NHS Direct Symptom Checker presents the same content so users are guaranteed a consistent experience.
