Upgrading to Alterian ACM (CM7)
Migrating from Alterian CMC to ACM (Alterian Content Manager) is a choice that many users are currently considering.
While CMC remains an excellent platform, CMC is where future investments in the roadmap will happen. CMC will remain supported for a few years more and with the release of version 6.3, is will be a stable and usable system for many. However, ACM is where Alterian see their future in the CMS space and within their suite of products. ACM is an object-based system as opposed to CMC being page-based.
The indications are that this is where the mid-tier CMS space is heading, with greater flexibility and application in a mult-channel world. For example, Alterian ACM can output to SGML for use in print publishing or output elegantly on mobile devices. And with the ability to push out to other channels (like Facebook and Twitter) with Social Media Publisher, combined with the 'listening' element of SM2, Alterian have put their full weight behind ACM.
Migrating from CMC to ACM will be an increasingly common operation, and one that Fusionworkshop is well-placed to carry out. With strong experience in CMC and a team that were the first full qualified Alterian ACM developers, the team draws on both skillsets.
